Do Blog Layouts Matter Anymore?
2 min readI am a hobbyist when it comes to blogging. I will be the first to tell you that I am not in it for the ads or becoming the next webzine obsessed with my daily hits, SEO, or earnings. That’s just not me. I write because I like to write, I am told I am fairly good at it and it’s a good excuse to stay on top of the leading edge news and topics.
As I have been playing around with my blog seriously for about a year now, many hours I have wasted messing around with the templates and the design of Binary Blogger blog. For what? Visitors are here for about 2 minutes as the read a post and they move on. With Twitter, Facebook, Flipboard, Hootsuite, all the RSS feeders out there I don’t think people care how the site looks. They care about the content. I subscribe to some websites just for the fact that I don’t want to navigate their ad ridden, cosmetic mess of boxes and animated ads to read the content I came there to read. Subscribing to the RSS feeds allows me to get at the content without the frosting.
Taking a look at how I consume the information I changed this blog to a similar manner. I tossed my complex, magazine layout and went with Google’s new dynamic views. Just the fact that Google has release this shows that they know people are caring less about the flashy cosmetic design and care more about the content. Now this does not apply for everyone or every type of blog obviously, a web designer would want to have a well designed blog, but not me. Information is key, the rest is just flashy and annoying. My two cents.
End of Line.
