This past week I had the pleasure to take a family vacation to Wisconsin Dells. I will be the first to say that this was one of the best vacations I have taken and a large part of it had to do with the resort we chose.
We, Mrs. Binary and the 4 year old, stayed at the Rivers Edge Resort. The photos in this post are the actual pictures I took of our accommodations. The rooms are cottage or cabin style. It has a bathroom, two beds and a kitchenette that had a full fridge and freezer, microwave, coffee maker and stove top but no oven. Bonus full cable TV. That’s all you need. There is no maid service or other hotel type annoyances. You check in, you get the keys and drop them off when you are done.
The rooms are more expensive than some of the hotels around but where you spend a little more on the room you can save a bundle by loading up a cooler or two with meals to prepare in the kitchen there instead of having to go out or order in every meal. This is key for me. We brought enough food for a breakfast and dinner each night, lunches were at the water parks.
Another surprising aspect was that the photographs on their website are just as the grounds look. It has a very rustic feel to it yet it’s very clean and well kept.
It is a cabin resort that most of the people that come there are staying for several days as opposed to hotels which are shorter stays most likely so you get familiar with everyone else around you. Families are welcome, we had a small child with us, but most of the other patrons are older crowds, buddy trips, girls trips, reunion trips which cuts way down on the chaos of a kids centric place. Especially at the Dells.
I can’t think of anything that I would change or do differently other than the beds. They were very hard and the pillows were not great. Both the wife and I had stiff backs each morning from the bed and the couch was not a pull out. But other than that I loved it.
In fact we are already penciling in our next Dells trip which will probably become and annual thing and I don’t see us staying at another place when we go out there. The location is off the main strip of the dells but 5 to 10 minutes from pretty much everywhere.
I highly recommend Rivers Edge Resort and if you look around and see other reviews out there you will understand why some people have been going there year after year for 20 to 30 years.
