Music Review: Pentatonix
2 min readEvery now and then there are groups that have been around for a while, not quite mainstream, that find a burst of originality and really break out showing their talent. A few weeks ago a group I never heard of before did just that.
They are a cappella group called Pentatonix. They first hit the scene by winning a cappella competition show on NBC called The Sing-Off, Season 3 to be exact. I did not watch that show, not my thing. However, I have checked this group out and I am amazed by their talent.
Their latest album simply called Vol. II is available now and it is also available on Spotify. To promote their album they put together a video for a fantastic Daft Punk mash-up they did. All voice, no instruments or tracks, just the singers.
Their style is not something I can listen to for hours on end while I work on strategy documents or write identity policies but for a change from the mainstream Top Billboard whatever or terrestrial radio there are real musicians and singers out there that blow away marketed music. Sad but true. Pentatonix is one of those and they are worth a listen or at a minimum check out some of their cover songs they have on their YouTube channel.
