Blood Moon – Oct. 8, 2014
1 min read
October 8th, 2014 approximately 5:59am local time. The moon will have its 4th straight total eclipse which is infrequent and due to the positions, the moon will catch a red hue from Earth’s shadow making it look like blood hence the name Blood Moon. If you missed today’s the next total eclipse isn’t too far away, April 4th, 2015, so set your alarms now. I always try to get up and catch whatever celestial event is happening overhead, eclipses, meteor showers, comets, etc… Why? Because they are rare and there’s no guarantee I will get a chance to see nature’s spectacles again. One overcast day and you are out of luck.
This morning was easy, I am already stirring by 5:30am anyway so to get out of bed, grab the camera and go out on the porch wasn’t too bad. Although the brisk Minnesota autumn air had the temps in the low 40s which woke me up a little faster. What made this morning classic was my 6-year-old got up as the eclipse was waning out and the color still held a deep red. I took him outside to show him the eclipse and he asked the best question, “Daddy, is that Mars?”
Awesome.
End of line.
